Tropical Exotic Fruit Australia – TEFA
Tropical Exotic Fruit Australia (TEFA) incorporated was established in 2007 following a merger of the Rambutan and Tropical Exotic Growers Association (RTEGA) of Queensland with the Rambutan and Tropical Exotic Fruit sub-groups of the Northern Territory Horticulture association. TEFA was established to promote development of the tropical exotic fruit industry estimated to be worth over $9 million annually, with over 150 commercial growers.
TEFA’s vision is to empower all growers of tropical exotic fruit crops in Australia to improve their businesses and deliver improved customer products though improved supply chains and marketing.
TEFA’s mission is to improve how tropical exotic fruits are grown, the profits made and the products delivered and offered to consumers. TEFA will work to improve the industry by commissioning national research and development projects in partnership with RIRDC and others. It will develop a stronger, unified voice to provide a more visible profile for tropical exotic crops and will lobby on behalf of growers on critical issues. TEFA will promote training and leadership development within the tropical exotic fruit industry.
TEFA needs to secure ongoing industry funding to achieve its mission, to represent the tropical exotic fruit industry and the deliver on key industry issues. TEFA will rely on voluntary levies initially, but aims to develop more secure and sustainable funding through a statutory levy to deliver a more powerful, more influential tropical exotic fruit sector generating more benefits to growers nationally. TEFA will work with RIRDC to build its capacity to meet the identified critical issues over this period. Support will be sought from growers to proceed to the statutory levy.
