Women in Forests and Timber Network (WFTN) hosted its annual Cocktails for Charity event over the weekend in support of RizeUp Australia, a national charity assisting families affected by domestic and family violence.
Held at The Gatsby Lounge Bar in Brisbane, the sold-out event attracted a record 127 attendees and raised an impressive $32,600, surpassing previous fundraising totals by more than $10,000.
The evening featured cocktails, canapés, live DJ entertainment, a photo booth, raffles, auctions, and a lucky door prize. Among the standout auction items were a two-carat aquamarine stone donated by Demarge Jewellers, which sold for $1,900, and a professional ‘Hot Lap’ experience with race driver Fabian Coulthard, donated by Fabian and his wife Becky Coulthard, which fetched $3,900.
Guests also heard from RizeUp’s Meryl McKenzie, who gave a powerful presentation on the challenges faced by those escaping domestic violence. The confronting realities highlighted during the speech reinforced the importance of the charity’s work and the funds raised on the night.
WFTN committee member Jenni Day from Versace Timbers confirmed the event’s success, noting the record-breaking sponsorship total and strong support from attendees through raffle ticket purchases and auction bids.
The event was supported by a wide range of sponsors across multiple tiers. Platinum sponsor Wesbeam led the list, followed by Gold sponsors HQ Plantations, ITI, Megabeam, and Hyne Timber. Silver sponsors included Weathertex, CMTP, Wilson Timbers, Parkside Timbers, Langs, VIDA Wood, Bretts, and AKD. Bronze sponsors were Carbon Warrior and Woodhouse.
WFTN extended special thanks to Demarge Jewellers, the Coulthards and several donating partners for their generous auction donations, and to all sponsors and attendees for contributing to a highly successful evening in support of a critical cause.
